Health
Exercise is enjoyable, healthy, and very safe for most people. However, some individuals are at increased risk of problems during physical activity, so additional medical monitoring may be advisable.
Anyone undertaking the 20km Maredsous-Dinant walk must therefore be well trained and in good health. It is therefore strongly recommended that each participant undergoes a medical examination and seeks the advice of a doctor before setting off.
If you meet one or more of the following conditions, it is advisable to contact your doctor or undergo a sports medical examination before engaging in relatively intense physical activity:
- You experienced chest pain, palpitations (irregular or unusual heartbeat), discomfort, or unusual shortness of breath during or after exertion.
- You have resumed exercising without consulting a doctor after a long break and/or for health reasons.
- You have been smoking for more than 5 years or have recently quit after smoking for more than 5 years.
- You are taking medication to treat high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, or lung disease.
- You suffer from high blood pressure and/or high cholesterol levels.
- A family member under the age of 55 died suddenly as a result of health problems (cardiovascular disease, sudden death).
- Do you have liver, kidney or thyroid problems, or diabetes?
